ultrasound biopsy

ultrasound biopsy

Hi, I went to the breast surgeon, last week she was unable to feel the mass, that she was going to biopsy, so she sent me for an ultrasound core biopsy. While waiting to have the biopsy, the radiologist was looking at the mass and discovered that there were two masses one on top of each other, and although he could not see the one under the first mass except for the edges that were larger than the top one which were lobulated.
I was just wondering if this occurs a lot also i was wondering if cancer could hide underneath the first mass.

Sorry this has totally thrown me, as this is my 3rd ultrasound, and first biopsy and each ultrasound seems to have something different, and now im unsure of things again.

Thanks
Cheryl

I'm not sure if this occurs often but it does occur. Most biopsies are done under some type of guidance unless it is an Excisional Biopsy done thru an open incision by a Surgeon. As a rule the least invasive the procedure, the better. There is no way to speculate as to whether either one of the masses might be cancerous .... the biopsy will answer this concern. I would think that you should have the results of your biopsy soon.    Regards .....
