underarms lumps

I have had 2-3 lumps under both arms for a few years. I did go to the doctor but they didn't know what they were. The lumps are painful at times and im really worried that i might have breast cancer as i sometimes feel a slight feeling (not pain) in my breasts. I used to sweat a lot under my arms when they first started. Is it possible that they may just be sweat glands that are blocked.

If they are painful then it is not likely that it is breast cancer. You are right about a blocked sweat gland, there may be a cyst developing from a  sweat or oil gland – they may occasionally cause pain especially if there is an overlying infection. Since they are painful you may consider having them removed to relieve the pain.  Once removed the lumps are analyzed by a pathologist so you could also be certain it is not cancer.

How old are you? Since how long have you noticed the lumps?

Underarm lumps are axillary lymph nodes which could be enlarged secondary to infection or even trauma and in rare cases due to malignancy. They are usually enlarged when a new deodorant is used, after shaving or waxing the underarm area.

Have you got an ultrasound done as yet and have you got a clinical examination got done by a physician? This would help in coming to a confirmed diagnosis.
