very anxious and confused

I am almost fifty years old and currently perimenopausal with no family history of breast cancer. Approximately six years ago, a routine mammogram detected two small masses confirmed to be simple cysts at ultrasound. Five months ago, I was called back for ultrasound after my annual mammogram. This time, the issue was in the left breast rather than the right. I was told that I have two very tiny "cysts." One was deemed to be a simple cyst. The other was labeled a "complicated cyst" because it has "debris levels." I was told that now I have to come back in six months to confirm stability and lesions were labeled "probably benign." I am a very anxious person. I have asked my Primary Care doctor three times whether I should be worried, and he has assured me that the findings appear benign. I have asked my GYN on two different occasions whether I should be worred, and she assures me that the findings are indeed cysts and "she is not worried, but wants me to comply with the short term follow up," which I will do. However, I would like to be able to let go of the anxiety I feel worrying that when I come back for follow up, they aren't going to change their story and scare me with a different diagnosis. What is the likelihood that a simple cyst and a complicated cyst with debris levels are cancerous?

It's impossible to say much except that of course the simple cyst will most likely remain nothing more than a cyst. As far as the other cyst .... if it were likely to be cancer then you would have been advised to have a biopsy when it was discovered. The re-check in 6 months is a routine recommendation for such things to track any changes that might occur. From what you state your original Mammogram (the latest one) was 5 months ago and then you had the Ultrasound ... it seems that you only have a month or so before your recommended re-check. Since you have ask two of your Dr.s and they have reassured you I'm not sure what more we can say here. I think that if you are anxious about this situation there isn't much to say that will reduce your fears .... perhaps you should ask if a biopsy might be done to settle the matter once and for all.  Regards ....

Lets say the worst thing happens and in 6 months it is cancer. It would probably be early!! The survival rates when it is early are very high.
