Hi,
Most abnormalities found in mammogram results are not breast cancer.
If the radiologist questions a finding results,he will recommend additional testing. (imaging studies and/or biopsy)
Most of these abnormalities are found to be normal breast tissue or benign (non-cancerous) tissue.
Abnormalities found in the breast could be many, including:

1) A mass (lump) with a smooth, well-defined border which is often benign. Ultrasound is needed to characterize the inside of a mass, if the mass contains fluid, it is called a cyst.

2) A mass (lump) that has an irregular border or looks like a star-burst appearance (spiculated) may be cancerous and a biopsy is usually recommended.

3) Microcalcifications (small deposits of calcium) are another type of abnormality. They can be classified as benign, suspicious, or indeterminate. Depending on the appearance of the microcalcifications on the additional magnified images, a biopsy may be recommended.

Best wishes...

P.S.Please, if you have any additional questions keep it on the same thread  (Use the "post a comment" below the answers you have received ) This helps to have all your information together so we can better help you.
Thank you.

All this letter states is found in the part you quote; I mean that is all we/you can go by unless you have more information. 'Abnormality in your mammogram.'

It does not say in what way it is abnormal, or how hugely, or slightly abnormal, or what it may be, and if there is a small or slightly bigger suspicion about the abnormality looking more benign or normal.

I don't think they know either at this point, as usually there may be some thought included by the radiologist; i.e. solid lesion with round, regular edges, or a large legion with irregular borders.

It may or may not cover a lot of issues. Perhaps all that is needed is some further testing such as a MRI, or even biopsy but it does not sound to me that they feel alarmed or at ease, just 'not enough information' and that is quite common with mammograms.

If it were me, I would call and tell them you are worried because you do not know what the letter means and if they could provide you with more information, as well as what to expect next?

All the best and I hope it's not serious.
