what is it?

i am 52 years old and had mammogram 2 weeks ago. they called me back in for another mammogram and ultra sound. they found a density in my left breast. he was unsure whether to do a biopsy.  he said he was putting in his report benign hyperplasia but he wanted to check on it in 6 months. what does this mean?  does this have other implications or am i just worrying for nothing?

Dear julbug, The appearance on the mammograms can be interpreted with varying degrees of suspicion of malignancy (cancer).  A biopsy (checking a sample of the tissue under the microscope)of the area would be the next step in terms of evaluation.  If you are uncomfortable with his recommendation, you could always of get a second opinion from a physician who specializes in breast disease.
