what is major duct excision

how do they perfprm a major duct excision? and why don't they put you to sleep for it?

This is a relatively minor procedure that is done under local anesthesia. I would imagine that there may also be some IV sedation involved and you may not be completely aware. After the duct is identified a small incision is made around the areola and the duct is removed. The scar is almost undetectabel after healing.
