There are different types of biopsies. I think if there was something you could not do afterwards, like drive, someone would have told you. A needle biopsy is I think the easiest of the biopsies, and the doctor will merely insert a needle into your breast after first numbing the area and then withdraw some liquid from the cyst, or whatever it is he/she is testing. (usually the doctor will have a pretty good idea what sort of biopsy is warranted, and they may guide where they are going with the ultrasound) Also, and I know it sounds scary, any type of biopsy does, but the breast is really relatively painless an organ to do stuff on unlike for example your nose, or from what I heard also something like a liver biopsy. Even having your breast removed when you do have cancer is not nearly as painful as something like a c-section.

With some breast biopsies, and I don't think this would be the case for a needle biopsy, it is advised that you do not lift heavy objects for a couple of days, and there may be some bruising and/or a little bit of pain. It is also sometimes helpful to wear a supportive bra in order to feel more comfortable.

You will be OK!

Did they tell you what kind of biopsy you are having, or that you are having one for sure?

Hi Katarina
No i don't know for definite what is happening....i have lumpy breasts particularly my left which is also considerably larger....i get alot of pain for two weeks before menstruation and after having a few drinks...so much so that i have cut out alchohol altogether. i went to doc a few months ago and he said i have mastitis without even examining me..my youngest is 4....last week i went to another doc who gave me breast examination she said i have very lumpy breasts and a solid mobile lumb at 1 o clock on left breast....she faxed referral letter to breast clinic, they phoned me with appt for triple assesment ...mammogram, ultrasound , consultant and possibly biopsy....

I am going to see the breast specialist. I have a lot of the things you described on my left breast. Mostly a lot of pain around my period. They did 2 US and couldn't find anything. I hope the dr finds something this time around and can do a biopsy. I have been so stressed out for almost 2 months now. It is a scary time.  I am  sure you are feeling the same.

I don't think you have breast cancer but that your lumps and bumps and pain are due to hormonal changes. It is typical for this to be painful, and cyclical. So I doubt very much you will need a biopsy. Cancer doesn't hurt usually and certainly not like you describe. Vit E can help a lot if you take it every day; it did me and I don't usually believe in those things. Caffeine is also something that makes it worse. So, I just don't think you need to worry much but it's good that you are getting checked out. Best, KAT

went for tests today....my breasts are full of cysts......all benign doc says.......he says they willl just leave them be as they are small enough ...ultasound showed 12 in left breast and 2 in right ..mammogram results were fine and i saw a surgeon who examined me and checked results and said cysts wont change into cancer...he said just to take evening primrose as this should ease the pain but will take about 3 months to kick in....thank you all for your support
Jess i dont think you have anything to worry about as you sound like me...good luck for tomorrow let us know how you get on.....
now that side of things ok just have to wait for my echocardiogram on tuesday to see why i have a murmur........at least i will have had a full overhaul
