worried about mass in breast

worried about mass in breast

i am a 30 year old woman who just recently went in for a mammogram which came back there was a mass in my right breast under my pit, well they then sent me to have an ultrasound done on the suspitious area. the ultrasound came back with no findings of a lump what so ever so my doctor says its just thick breast tissue and he wouldnt worry about it. to have a folloe up mammogram in 6 months. but i am still worried why wouldnt the ultrasound show anything but the mammogram did?  and do i most likely have cancer and they just are letting it go? how long can one go with breast cancer before it is uncurable or too late? please someone help i am sooo scared!

Hi, I almost had the opposite of that. The mammogram didn't give a clear picture but the ultrasound could find it better. The images are made differently and so find different things. I'm guessing because they couldn't find the lump on the ultrasound, that all the tissue looked the same, which is a good thing. And also a guess, maybe the denser tissue made a bigger blob on the mammogram so they checked it out.
I know it's scary to worry about having cancer. I'm still waiting on my biopsy results. Let your doctor know you're concerned, or even get a second oppinion. They may order a biopsy to put you at ease. But also keep in mind that doctors typically cover their behinds and over test if they think there is a chance it could be something bad, so that your doctor thinks it is of little concern and wants to wait 6 months really is probably a good sign.
   Hope this helps a little.

Hi.
How are you doing?
You had a mammogram which showed a right breast mass which on ultrasound confirmation was not seen.  There is a possibility that you have a dense breast tissue that the mammogram picked-up as a mass.  The ultrasound will tell whether the breast mass is cystic or solid in nature.  Six months is a reasonable time frame to have a repeat diagnostic evaluation.  However, you should continue to observe your breast and perform monthly breast self examination and report to your doctor any changes you notice.
Good luck.

as far as i have heard, a mammography only gives you an idea if there is something dense in the breasts. a positive report does not mean cancer...
