worried

Hi
Has mamorgram oct 07 for microcalifications clusters was told it was benign and to return in 6 months for follow up mamogram, after new scan they told me it was stage 3 breast cancer. Had mastectomy 2 weeks ago and was dcis stage 2 grade 3 and  6  OUT OF 18 lymph nodes affected.  I am 37 years old 2 small children and I am worried about recurrance to other parts of the  body. My specialist stated it would be good to get my ovaries removed and chemo and radiation Plus tamoxifin.  Before my mastectomy  I had 3 rounds of chemo so I am not sure if thats why I am stage 2 grade 3 if the chemo made me a lower grade. COULD SOMEONE OUT THERE WHAT THE LIKELY HOOD OF RECURRANCE IS? GOING MAD
Thanks

I'm sure your Oncologist will discuss in detail the percentages of recurrance as well as all options available for your particular case. Treatment plans are tailored specifically for each case after all Pathology reports are in and reviewed. There are statistics but they are somewhat general in nature. A recurrance would be in the breast but when the cancer is found in another part of the body it is referred to as metastasis. As far as your staging goes ... accurate staging can only be done AFTER all Path. reports are completed and compared. Best wishes ....

Check out the website adjuvantonline.com. My oncologist uses it (and yours probably does too) and you can put in all your specific information (age, diagnosis, grade, stage, etc..) and it'll tell you what the rate of recurrence and 10 year survival rates are based on the different types of treatment available (i.e. chemo with radiation, no radiation, etc...) It also might make you feel more confident in your treatment regimen.

As a side note, I hope you had genetic testing done that shows a BRCA gene mutation which is why your specialist is recommending removal of your ovaries. I assume you did but my testing came back negative so there was no need to remove mine.  Take care!
