:( *sigh*... i need tips for weaning ladies!

well, every time we finally have a good and "slightly" pain free feeding he goes and does it again w/ his "needle teeth"!!!  i don't think i can do it anymore.  but at the same time i don't think i can wean him!  what do i do?  how do i start?  if i'm in pain, i'd rather it take a slightly shorter amount of time rather than dragging it out for a month...  i also don't want to go to a bottle and then have to wean him off that too.  he sips from a sippy cup already, but its not like he gulps it down like he's nursing or bottle feeding...  i need help!

also, right now the only time he really nurses good is in the evening and in the middle of the night.
during the daytime he nurses for minute and then bites down and then lets go.  i think he's trying to get my attention b/ when i look at him he sometimes bites harder...  like he's playing a game!

I personally haven't tried it but my Aunt does it with everyone of her kids. She gives them the formula out of a cup, (not the spill proof ones the ones with the little spout); once she wants to stop bf-ing. Her kids have never had a bottle they seem to do well with it.

If you are doing ok with night feedings maybe keep up the night feeding and quit the day? When I went back to work I stopped getting a full supply so my daughter was switched to formula during the day and I fed her still at night...it did make the weaning easier on my body as it wasn't painful when I stopped (however, I don't know if this is because I got pregnant and my body stopped producing milk).

The biting is easy to stop. When he bites you, sternly say no biting and place him on the floor for 10 - 20 seconds.  Then pick him up and go back to nursing.  If he bites again, do it again.  My 2nd child bit like crazy and this took 3 or 4 days to remedy.  Then if you are not ready for weaning, you don't have to.  Of course if this goes on too long then you do what you have to.

When I weaned my 1st we did it very gradually. I've never given my kids formula.  Lucky enough to stay home with them.  And they both refused bottles, but took sippy cups quite well.  There is no perfect age to wean.  My 1st did at 22 months.  It looks like #2 may take a little longer.  Don't worry what others say.  I heard alot of opinions on how long I nursed for.  But I do what is right for me and my kids.
