Best Pump

I have heard many times here that if you have to pump b/c of work or whatever, you need a hospital grade pump to stimulate supply.  I have a Medela Pump In Style.  Is there a better one than that?  I am asking because I had a lot of trouble keeping up with dd, and hope to have an easier time this time around.  I called the hospital where I plan to deliver, and they said they could rent me one for a couple hundred dollars a month.  I don't know if I can afford that, especially after already buying a pretty expensive one.  Is the one that the hospital rents that much better than the one I have?

the one you have should be fine.  I have an old one and have used it up to 5x a day and it's just great.  My son is 6 months and I've been back at work for 3 months - things with pumping at work are good - I think pumping even increased my supply some...

Generally the Pump-In-Style is considered adequate. If you find for some reason it is not keeping up, contact WIC as they may loan you a Lactina to use.

Thanks for the tip.  I'll keep them in mind.

I have the Medela Pump in Style and think it's one of the best pumps available. I've heard good things about Medela Freestyle, however that one is more expensive than the pump in style. Also have heard good comments about the Lansinoh Double Electric pump too, however haven't ever tried that one myself. Medela is a good brand for working moms. To keep up your milk supply, remember to keep hydrated and pump during the day as many times as your baby would be nursing while you are away from each other. Best wishes to you.

pump in style is good- some people do better on the pump in style advanced because it has a "let-down" feature to help stimulate a let-down. these a faster, shallower suctions that supposedly mimic how a baby stimulates a mother's breast to trigger a let-down. Stick with the one you have- there are ways you can help stimulate a let-down (massage, heat, etc...)

I had the same problem with my last 3 kids. I am about to give birth, hopefully this week so I m not using anything at the moment, but I purchased the pump in style advanced with "let down". I work in a hospital and had a chance to speak with a lactation specialist who said it is the best pump on the market. I hospital rental is great, but not portable if going back to work anyway. I got the backpack pump since I already have to carry a bag. There is also a shoulder bag but the Medela pump in style advnced is the best pump I think...
