I am trying to wean my Son who is just coming up to 13 months old, nut am having trouble getting him to drink any of the milk substitutes i.e the follow on milks  have even tried him on cows milk but nothing seems to work as he just spits it out. Can anyone suggest how i could overcome this problem please as i feel i am at a dead end and really do want to stop breast feeding now.

I weaned my son at 11 months because I was almost 3 months preggo. I slowly started cutting out one feeding at a time until I got him down to 2 feedings a day. (one in the morning and one at night)  Does he eat 3 solid meals a day? By 9 months my son was doing that and that's why he didn't want to nurse as much. I also introduced him to rice milk before he was a year and then right before a year old I slowly started putting cows milk in a bottle, just 2oz to start for the first week or so and then slowly starting adding more when he was more interested. Then one night I gave him a bottle to go to sleep instead of nursing and he did really well. So every night we would do that, and he eventually didn't want to nurse anymore. Also because I am pregnant, my milk supply started to dwindle and it taste the same anymore. But it just takes time and you both have to be ready to stop.

I did the same thing with my son - turns out I got pregnant and had plenty of stored/frozen breast milk so we were able to add cow's milk in with the breast milk and the transition for my kid went well.  I have a friend who's son is rejecting milk - she's said that he freaks out when he sees the color of the beverage in the sippy cup. She was told by her dr to just wait until she's fully weaned her son to try introducing milk... Best of luck!
