Extra milk?? Recipes or other ideas?

Extra milk?? Recipes or other ideas?

Ok, I'm pumping for my 3 week old child and she's not eating nearly as much as my first son.  My little girl is eating on the low end of what she should be, my son ate WELL ABOVE what she should have been eating (although he was always underweight for at least the first two years).  So I've run into something that is a first for me, I've got all this extra milk that I have no clue what to do with!

There are no milk banks near me, and my oldest son won't flat out drink my milk.  I've thought about adding it in foods but my husband is the main cook and he's freaked about the subject.  I've got 3 gallon size bags of frozen milk in the freezer and we just don't have room for more (I typically have at least 18 oz of extra milk a day).

So, I'm trying to make ice cream today/tomorrow and I'll add the fresh stuff to my coffee in the morning but I'm still running out of ideas.

Also I REALLY want to make some cheese out of my milk to give to my SIL's little girl (She's 1 1/2 and my SIL prefers not to give her cows milk).  I haven't been able to find any recipes to make cheese....so I guess if you know of any that would be awesome!

I was pumping and bottle feeding and pumping 8-10 oz every 4 hours so I had an abundance of milk. I started to just dump it once I had my supply in the freezer. I don't know of any milk banks near me either.

I remember seeing a segment on the news about a couple i think in New York who made cheese from breastmilk. You might want to google it and see what you can find. They owned a restaurant but couldn't sell or serve the cheese because of FDA laws.

I've also heard of making cheese. My husband would LOVE to use my milk in his coffee but I am personally a little weirded out by the idea. I have tried giving my milk to my 3 year old but he protests. However, he does know it's my milk because we tell him so maybe he would drink the milk if he wasn't told about it! I have 200+ bags of milk in my freezer that was bought just for that purpose and my son will be one in two weeks! I have started giving it to him in a sippy cup but he still wants to nurse. Go figure!

Have you Googled anything or come up with anything? Good luck! It's a shame to see it go to waste...

I did google it and read that it's hard to make due to the chemical make up of it being different than regular cheese.  I'll keep looking!

I always just stored my extra milk so that someone else could feed the baby later on at some point. You can never have to much on hand to me.  You could always throw that away much later, after you are done nursing, if you don't end up using it.  But your baby's needs may change later and she may begin eating more from a growth spurt, etc.

craigs list, haha no not really but I have actually seen it on there!  I also know if ther is any hospital with a level 3 or 4 in your area they will test it and keep it, and it is not a milk bank! I had too much when my little one was in the NICU and they told me to stop bring it. I pumped 8-9 oz per side each time and she only ate 2oz every 2 hours;) So anyway all mamas milk is tested if they BF and my little one did nto need extra vitamins which they said was very unusual and when the dr heard I had milk he asked me to put it up for others. I was told and this was in Good Sam in Cincinnati OH that all NICU's do this, there are foster kids and most premature babies are perscribed breastmilk if the mother will allow and does not breastfeed. Also ther are some states where foster moms nurse the babies. It helps with premature and babies born addicted! It has reversed brain damage, eye sight, organ failure, lots! I would call around and who cares if someone acts weirded out by it!

There are communities in Nova Scotia that moms store milk for babies whose mamas can't or if they have multiples! They shoudl do that here!!

Seriously, I would look to buy another freezer if I were you just to store the milk in. I nursed and pumped for my second. I had a ton of milk frozen by the time he was four months old (over 2500 oz!) so I stopped pumping and just nursed, but he self weaned at 10 months, I wanted to nurse longer but he didn't. Because of the frozen breast milk he was able to have at few breast milk feedings each day until close to his first birthday. I paid $100 second hand for my deep freezer and I always kept a freezer thermometer in it to make sure it was working properly. I am sure I saved more money buying that freezer than if I had had to fork out for 2500 ounces of formula!
