Fat in my milk

Any ideas why sometimes I have more fat in my milk than others?  Sometimes there's pure yellowish looking fat in it, almost like butter.  I'm wondering if what I eat effects if my milk is more fatty?

There can be a multitude of reasons for varying fat content, likely it is related to your baby's needs. Your milk composition is constantly changing, even from feeding to feeding. Your milk will likely have more nutrient dense milk at the bedtime feeding to provide staying power through the longer stretches than a feeding at 9am.

Also, the hindmilk is dense milk, it is also possible you are not pumping long enough to always draw it out.

i noticed that too. My LC said it was perfectly normal. Andi's right about hindmilk and such.
every now and then i would pump a really watery batch. I didn't want to feed it because i was afraid it wouldn't fill dd well enough. plus, since she was a preemie, i was obsessed with getting her to put weight on. my LC said that i should freeze it and use it in a few months to make cereal for the baby. that's what i did :) But, it's not necessary. If you were breast feeding, then you wouldn't know what your milk looks like.

Interesting info.  It's strange to me that my body knows what my baby needs.  How does it do that?  I can see that my body knows how much to produce, based on her nursing time and demand, but the content?  Amazing!

The antibodies in your milk can also vary. For example if you have a cold then your body will produce more antibodies that will specifically fight off that cold and thus help prevent your baby from getting the cold.
It has to be said breastmilk is amazing stuff!
