Fenugreek

Fenugreek

Can anyone tell me if this really works for milk production?  I am breastfeeding my newborn and want to increase my milk supply.  I also heard oatmeal works too, I welcome all your comments!

I have not even heard of either of those methods.  My supply for my second DS did not come as easily as with the first.  I just pumped in between feedings as much as possible and my body was able to increase the supply on its own.  Lots of water too!!!

I used fenugreek with my 13 month old since her was 6 months old, it really did increase my milk supply. I tried the mother's milk tea, and got tired of drinking that 3 -5 times a day. So i tried fenugreek and it worked better then the tea, the only thing about fenugreek is that your pee starts to smell like syrup and in my case my husband said that I always smelled sweet. I myself would recommend it to other BF women.

Yes, the Fenugreek has worked for me!  I'm definitley producing more milk, when I pump I'm making almost 4-5oz. Also, my breasts are like watermelons in the middle of the night!!  I smell like aunt Jemimah too!  : )  Syrup that is...

How often do you ladies take this?  How many times a day?

I am wondering the same thing.  My bottle says take 2-3 capsules 2-3 times a day.  Seems like a lot!

Has it helped with your milk production?

For me, just increasing my liquid intake did more for boosting my milk supply than taking fenugreek did.

I don't know about fenugreek, but I can tell you what worked for me. First let me say that I am not much of a drinker and don't really like beer at all. My grandmother told me that when she had babies it was common to drink Guinness stout to boost production. That sounded horrible to me because I hate stout particularly. So I tried beer. I drank oneor two bottles a day and it worked like magic. Curiously, when I weaned the baby I totally lost any desire for beer.

I didn't need the beer for subsequent babies but I did have to remember to drink enough fluid. So as soon as I heard the baby cry, and before I nursed it, I drank a glass of water. It doesn't matter when you drink the water of course. It is just that the cry reminded me.

If you were to drink beer, the alcohol would be in your breast milk and the baby would then injest it.  If you do drink, even a small amount, you need to "pump and dump" so the baby doesn't nurse while it is still in your system.

I take 6 capsules daily.  2 with each meal.  I know it seems like alot, but it seems to be working for me.  I have to say, and I'm not sure if anyone has this problem, along with a syrup smell coming from under my armpits, I seem to be perspiring more...it really seems to seep out of your pores!
In addition to the fenugreek, I bout Mothers Milk tea.  I drink tons of water during the day, so I'm doing pretty good with my milk supply.  The Fenugreek capsules are about $6 at health food stores,  I got mine at Wegmans for $5.

Drinking any kind of beer will boost your milk supply because of the yeast in the beer does something to increase your supply.
