Mi-Pump by First Years

Mi-Pump by First Years

I was wondering if anyone has used this pump and what you thought about it?  I really wanted to get the Medela pump in style but it's just to expensive.

I have been looking at other pumps and this one seems to be a good pump for a good price.

I haven't, and don't know anyone that has. Reviews on it are mixed, based on what I've read. Seems to be cheaply made with poor suction, so not a good option if you need to pump frequently. Maybe if you only need to pump on rare occasions?

My advice- if you go for the mipump, get the double. In general, double pumping is much better than single. However, if I were you, I'd wait to get a pump and get one based on your needs. If breastfeeding starts off great and there are no issues, a manual may be sufficient for those times you go on a date, etc. When I was in the hospital, I mentioned sore nipples, and they promptly gave me a great manual, the medela harmony, that I got to keep. All hospitals have different things they givebfing moms. When I had my first, I didn't buy a pump in advance. Dd was a preemie and had to pump exclusively so we bought the medela on our way home from the hospital. Renting was an option too. Find out if your insurance would cover a pump if your baby has a medical reason for not being able to nurse. With my second, I didn't pull out the electric pump for a couple of months. The manual was sufficient to cover me for my drs appointments.

Basically, wait and see. If your situation (returning to work) or baby ( unable to nurse) requires frequent pumping, then you'll probably need a quality pump. Otherwise, you can get away with a manual (maybe free from hospital?). I fear spending money on something moderately priced that may not work well or last may be a waste of money.

I forgot- I can't personally vouch for them, but I have heard good things about the playtex embrace and the lansinoh double electric. You may want to look at them and read reviews. They are much cheaper than the medela.

I used that pump, the single version, and it died on me less than 2 months after I purchased it.  I should have just bought the Medela PIS from the start because I eventually had to get it.  I didn't intend to use the MiPump often and I knew I would need a more powerful pump for daily use once I returned to work, but I didn't want to make the huge purchase right away and figured I'd get something smaller until I was near the end of my maternity leave.  I would have been better off just buying the Medela harmony manual pump because that's what I had to use until I was able to purchase the PIS.

I did have a manual pump from the hospital that I used before I got the Medela Harmony but it wasn't very comfortable to use at all.  The Harmony is so easy to use and I was able to pump a lot with it, almost as much as I can pump with the PIS.

I would definitely NOT get the MiPump.  If you're looking for a quality pump that is more affordable, look at the reviews for the Ameda pumps or Lasinoh pumps.  They seem to have good reviews.  Also, I was able to get a brand-new PIS from Craigslist but there is a local store that sells it for $212, slightly less than the normal $280.

I'd recommend the Ameda any day, I pumped a ton of milk with that and I lent it to a friend who exclusively pumped for 10 months with it.

I will be off work for the first 3 months and then I will need to pump while at work and need a double electric so I wont be taking so much time pumping.

I plan on breastfeeding for 2 years. I guess that's really up to my baby and supply.

I am on Medicare and they will provide you with a medela hand pump to keep for free or pay the rental on an electric double pump for 3 months if your Dr writes a prescription for it. I'm also on Wic and they will provide you with a hand pump also I don't know what brand though.

I know that a hand pump will be ok for the time that I just need to pump a few bottles for when I am going to be away for a few hours while on maternity leave. Once back to work I will need a better pump.

I was given an Evenflo Comfort Select single electric pump that my cousin tried to use a few times but was unsuccessful with breastfeeding. I have looked at the reviews on this and it's also a bunch of mixed reviews.

Playtex has a double pump that I just loved.  The less expensive double pump is about $70 to $80 dollars depending on where you live and I just love mine!
