My breasfed baby slept 7 hours without eating during the night

Is it ok if my 2 month old baby sleeps 7 hours without eating during the night?  He's done this twice now, I guess he's able to sleep more without feeding?  I still get up to pump at least once during the night anyway so I'm not so engorged.

I would consider waking the baby for a feed, since he is so young.  Talk to a pediatrician or lactation consultant, to see if you should try to create that more frequent feeding schedule due to the small size of the baby's stomach at 2 months.

Some people may say otherwise, but I never woke up my baby when he was sleeping - ever.  If he is gaining weight fine, I would let him sleep and be thankful, especially at 2 months. 7 hours is great!

my little one was born 4 weeks early, but still got the clearance to sleep as long as she could at 2 months. Of course, she never took advantage of this, lol. I was told it was OK since she was gaining well and ate plenty during the day. Check with your pediatrician, but I wouldn't be ok if he said it was ok for the baby. For you... you may want to keep pumping at least once. It's a good opportunity to build up a freezer stash and will prevent a drop in supply (and possible return of the dreaded period).

My daughter slept through the night from a young age, and I never bothered to wake up past 5 weeks, didn't matter how long it was for. She would always wake herself up when she got hungry enough. I would talk to your doctor, but more than likely it's nothing to worry about.

Considering my daughter is 9mos old and we're just now getting her to sleep 6hrs at a time.. dear lord for your own peace- I say dont wake a sleeping baby! My daughter has had some weight issues and loves to be with mommy, plus I work crazy hours for a normal new born schedule.

But when it comes to sleep if they can tollerate long periods and are not loosing any weight. You should be just fine. Like the others have said talk to your doctor, but they may tell you differently then other mommy's would tell you.

6-8 wet diapers a day?  Gaining weight appropriately?  ENJOY YOUR SLEEP!! ;). Consider yourself lucky. My 8.5 month old STILL makes every 2-3 hours to eat. I'd sell my soul for 6-7 hours!  And of course double check w pediatrician. My babe was 5 weeks premature and by 1 month of age was told don't wake the sleeping baby ;) not that we ever really did considering she lived constantly attached to the boob ;)

I spoke to my pediatrician he said not to wake him up.. he's 11 weeks old today and weighs over 13 lbs as of Sept 15th.  For the past 4 nights he's been sleeping really well.  Last night I put him to sleep at 10 p.m and woke up at 4:30 to feed.  He eats really well, and even if he doesn't wake up during the night I still do to pump.  I have over 300 bags of 4 oz frozen milk that I plan to keep adding to so that I don't have to worry for a while... Right before I go to work if he's still sleeping I grab him and feed him and put him back in his crib.  I haven't had this much sleep in a long time it feels SO GOOD!!!

I think you're lucky to have 300 bags of milk!!!!!  I would have killed to have 3 bags of frozen milk in reserve at any given time.

ps -- sometimes frozen breast milk gets a funny smell when thawed, because of the kind of proteins it has in it.  If this happens, don't throw it away, it's still perfectly good to drink and to use in the baby's food, etc.
