Newborn prefers one breast

Hello All!
My son is 1 week old. Breastfeeding is going well so far except two days ago DS decided he doesn't like to nurse from my right breast. He is latch on, suck once or twice, make a face, then let go. I have to keep "forcing" him to take that breast. I know he is hungry because he is rooting around, and if I give him my left breast he latches on and continues nursing until the breast is empty.
Is there anything I can do other than continue to give him my right breast and hope for the best? Could there be something wrong about my milk on the right? Any suggestions?

Have you tried different positioning with the breast that he does not like? Phin did the same thing to me until I found a hold that he liked.

I have a physiological issue with my right one, so all three of my boys nursed off of only the one breast for the 14, 15, and 19 months they each nursed. No supplementation, so it is possible. It is tough, but possible if the worst case scenario played out.

It is likely that it is a positional thing. Keep varying the position and try pumping on the breast that is not being used much to keep the supply up.

Have you consulted a Lactation Consultant? She may be able to help with the latch and positions as well.

Thanks ladies for the advice. Once I switched positions, like you recommended, he latched on and stayed on.

Good to hear that the little guy is now nursing both sides!

I had this same problem too, and it was also my right breast that was the evil boob. From pumping I know that it doesn't flow as fast as the left one, and I think that's why she was getting so frustrated, but we perservered, and now at 6 weeks she treats them the same. Glad you also got it figured out!
