BREASTFEEDING COMMUNITY
Now be honest!

Now be honest!

I'll make this a poll so it is anonymous but I'm wondering how many women out there have actually tried their own breastmilk or had their partners try or both. I personally have not except after licking my finger if there had been breastmilk on it, unintentionally.

So this is just meant to be fun and not poke fun or embarrass anyone. I'm just curious! Feel free to leave comments, too.

I have to add that my husband seemed creeped out by breastmilk which is really weird to me. It's more natural for humans to have human milk than milk from a cow or other livestock. Not that I'm about to hook myself up to some pump for the entire family but you know what I mean!

SO has.  He so has!  When I first started pumping I had quite a bit and he actually tried a whole small bottle of it.  He said it's great!  But it gave him the runs.... :)  He would drink it again, but I don't have spare.....

I've tried it (tasted), cause when it drips when pumping I lick my fingers etc.  It is sweet tasting.  Smells a bit like cows milk, but doesn't taste like it.

Nothing to be uncomfortable about, besides baby drinks it all the time. :)

My friend was pumping and had a bottle of breastmilk in the fridge - must have been in a non-identifying bottle.  A guest used it for tea.  They apparently didn't really notice... just thought it was skim milk (it seems thin compared to cow's milk)... I guess.

There were some empresses in China who would drink breast milk (they had women express the milk for them) even as adults.  They beleived it was very good for health and complexion.  So thinking it is 'disgusting' is probably just a cultural thing.

It's no biggy, both me and hubby tasted it...it tastes sweet, unless you've digested undesirable food/drink like garlic, onions, spicy foods, etc...then it may have a hint of bitterness.

Once my LO wouldn't finish his bottle of expressed breastmilk (1oz) at night, and I knew I had to throw it away so in the morning I added to my breakfast milk and coffee, since I thought it was a waste of nutrients if I let it go down the drain! When I told people they thought it was gross. I'd do it again if I have to, there's no point in throwing it when you can get all the nutrients back to source.

In America's Next Top Model there was a girl who was breasfeeding and since she couldn't do it in the show her doctor told her to pump and drink the milk herself, cause she wasn't able to send her milk to the baby, but by doing that she'd keep her ability to breasfeed and kept the nutrients, too.

I never have.  I have just never had the desire to but it's not gross to me.  I mean if I am willing to put it in my baby's mouth, I'd sure better be willing to put it in my own right? LOL!  My husband did after our first baby.  He just said it tasted sweet but didn't say much else.  He's never done it again.  I guess that pretty much took care of his curiosity :)

I am such a picky eater so trying anything new for me is rare and just about never happens. I hate milk - so the thought of trying my own milk - just doesn't appeal to me. My husand so far as I know never tasted the milk with our son.  I would ask about tasting it but he said he wanted it straight from the source if he was going to try it and that was not something we ever did!

to each their own though - I don't think it's gross for people to taste it -just wasn't for me!

I'm w/ Michele. It doesn't gross me out but I wouldn't try it either.

I had no idea a model on ANTM did that! That's kind of cool. Never thought about putting it in coffee either.

My DH has tried it on several occasions and says it's sweet and tastes good. He is not grossed out by it at all, but quite the opposite (: Me, on the other hand, cannot bring myself to try my own milk. I have not and will not! I'm not sure why, but it's not an appealing thought to me.

I have mixed breastmilk in hubby's scrambled eggs and also his coffee and I told him after the fact and he just laughts at me.  It's actually very sweet and good too.  My 16 year old has even tried it.

My hubby hasn't tried it. It just has never come up really. I have thought about it, but just haven't done it. Not sure why. This is my 3rd baby, you would think by now I would have tried it. I guess if I want to know I better do it soon as this is probly our last.

I have tried it on my finger after eating wedding cake and it tasted the same. It tastes like what you eat! My ex liked it and my new is weirded out by it but I know he will taste it! He liks my boobs to much to stay away from them:) I hd to not eat certian things becasue my son especially had bad diaper rashes from eating certian things.

I do nto think it is gross but would not down it plain. I would mix it in cooking to not waste though. But I never pump so that would hardly happen.

I have not had it to drink or anything, but I do rub it on my baby's scratches and such to help heal them. That got me to thinking that maybe it would help my REALLY dry and chapped lips, so I did it and it helped a LOT!

My BIL told my DH to use it in his coffee and he wouldn't need sugar - I have no idea if he was kidding or not, but I wouldn't put it past him!

:D

ok, dont know how i came upon this post but........i had to add something.  when my daughter was nursing, i had read that that milk was good for everything and i had a bit of a possible pink eye issue.  I took her milk and droped it into my eye and it went away.  Very soothing, and GONE!!
