OT lilys in the 3rd percentile

OT lilys in the 3rd percentile

I am feeling a little off put! we took lily to the health nurse today and she has dropped down to the 3rd percentile in weight. SO it was strongly recommended that i start to give her one bottle of formula a day to help her catch up her weight. she said she looked like she was born alot earlier than she should have (34weeks) however because we did the ivf i know exactly when i conceived so she was born at like 37weeks and 2days. I dont really understand why she thought that.

how much does she weigh? and how much did she weigh when born? When you say dropped in percentiles, I assume she used to be higher?
My little one is 12 weeks today- born on August 20. She's just over 14 lbs but she gained a little too much in the first 2 months.

While each baby is different, i think it is expected that breastfed babies gain at least 8 oz per week in the early months. Did the nurse evaluate your breastfeeding? Did she bother to weigh the baby before and after a feed to see how much she's taking? How often is the baby eating? While the slow weight gain is a concern, I wish she would've made an effort to help you figure out what's going on. I would suggest you get in touch with a lactation consultant who can help you with all of this. In the mean time, if you do choose to supplement a bottle, i strong;y suggest you pump when you would've done that feed to make sure it doesn't affect your supply.
good luck, and let us know what happens.

I agree with tiredbuthappy, however, if your milk supply hasn't come in yet, and your baby isn't taking in at least 2oz every 2-3 hours, you may want to supplement.  My baby girl was born 7lb 5oz, a week after she came home from the hospital she dropped to 6lb 10oz.  My milk supply was not established, and I KNEW she wasn't getting enough from the breast...plus she looked SO SMALL, that I was worried.  So my Ped and LC recommended to formula feed for a few days and inbetween breastfeedings to have her gain.  Thank goodness, I only did that for a week, my milk supply came in and she is now exclusively BF.  BTW, I used Enfamil Premium Lipil (Powder) during that time.

hey as of today she was 4.3 kg when she was born she was 3.04kg. however she dropped to 2.728 before we left the hospital. so the last time she was weighed was 9 weeks exactly which was 4.19kg so she has only put on 110grams in the last 3 weeks.

i weighed her before and after a feed today and it worked out that she is getting 120mls per feed which i will double check tomorrow just to be sure. they think maybe because she feeds well and there is plenty of milk that it just  isnt fatty enough. i hope that with the one bottle of formula combined with my milk will boost the gain because i dont want to have to give up feeding her

So, she's about 9 1/2 pounds. At birth she was 6 1/2 pounds. At 9 weeks, she was about 9 1/4 pounds. (just putting into terms that i can relate to)
3 pounds in 3 months isn't much, but not terrible considering they lose weight in the beginning. What concerns me is the .25 lbs (about 4 ounces) that she gained in the last 3 weeks. It almost seems as if she was gaining properly at first, but all of a sudden stopped.
Honestly, I would consult a pediatrician as well to rule out absorption problems. In addition, when you feed, try to have her feed from 1 side as long as possible to ensure that she gets enough hind milk. If she is getting 4 oz total, but it's 2 oz from each side, it is possible that she is getting a lot of foremilk.
