Pumping Question

Pumping Question

I need to go into work on Monday for a few hours so I need to leave milk for my husband.  I pumped once Saturday morning and once on Sunday morning.  I pumped 4 oz each time.  I feel like I do not have adequate milk for my son now.  I was going to start pumping once every morning and storing it in the freezer for the days I have to be away from my little one but now I am afraid if it is going to diminish my supply for him.  Will my body adjust to the extra 4 oz each day and how long will it take to adjust?

try relaxing to music ,etc while you pump ,, even if ,its when your baby , in the room etc ,, or before a feed  ,, but you should be ok once you relax and as you do it more often   ,, try putting a warm flennel cloth on your breasts first it should help and massage them ,, i breast fed my daughter for a year a half ,, i found it hard or starange to express at first  ,, ,, i was not ably to breast feed my first born ,, but suceeded to have plenty of milk for my daughter which was my second child  ,,   i would include your partener or husband as much as possably  ,, and dont forget to talk to them ,, i would often use this time to read stories and spend quality time with my other child   ,, you will be fine

your body will definitely adjust. i have pumped 12 ounces and dd has nursed immediately afterwards and still gotten milk. just pump the once though on the days you are home because you don't need to become a milk factory :)

Also if you can, when you are away from your baby make sure you pump as many times as he would have fed during that time away from him. It can often take our bodies a little while to adjust to the pump instead of our baby nursing.

It can take up to a week (or two) for your body to adjust. Also, the baby can get milk out much better than the pump (for the majority of women).  Pumping once like you are will not cause your little one to not get enough milk.  Getting 4 oz per pumping isn't bad at all, especially breastfeeding as well.

thanks ladies.  I was only gone for a short time so I was able to nurse as soon as I came home.  I have been pumping once in the morning for about 5-8 minutes and getting enough for one feeding.  I have been doing it since Saturday and it didnt seem to effect my supply today so I must be adjusting.  I like the idea of having a supply in the freezer.  Who knows maybe DH and I can have a date night soon...of course bringing along the pump does not sound like fun but it is better than nothing.

In terms of a date night, unless you MUST pump because it's un-comfortable missing a feeding once won't hurt.  If you do it regularly it can effect your supply.  About once a week I end up missing a pumping time and it does not cause any issues.

No pumping during date night...sounds good to me!  You answered my question about last night too.  I fed at 10 pm and he only ate on one side.  THen he didnt get up until 5 am so my one breast was not emptied for about 10 hours.  Ouch did it hurt this morning.  I pumped it before feeding my son....I was worried it would come to fast and make him fussy.  I got 3 oz in 4 minutes!  I was worried the 10 hours would effect my supply but it seems ok today.
