The right bra and breast feeding?

The right bra and breast feeding?

Any one heard any truths or facts to bras? Is there a right or wrong type.. is something like a sports bra too tight and will it cause dificulties to make milk? Does underwires really cause clogged ducts?

Please someone help me.. I only have a few different type of bra that fit and so far I have heard stories that they are part of the reason why my milk supply is lower than it could be.

I wear underwire nursing bras and haven't had any problems...I prefer them actually! I also wear regular sports bra's at night and a really good supportive sports bra while exercising! None of them are a nursing type. I have one night time nursing bra but it's from wal mart and has no support at all.

I've heard all that. You should wear one that is comfortable, (you don't want one that's too tight even if you're not breastfeeding anyways) and I was also told to avoid wires by both the lady at Motherhood Maternity and my LC. I wear a good fitting sports bra and have never had supply issues. I also don't use any form of supplements or take anything to try and up milk production. Shop around and see if you can find a nursing bra, or a good sports bra.

Thanks! I unfortunatly have 3 nursing bras that have underwires.. I'm half temped to remove them and let the sisters hang free. The other bras I have are sports bras, but they seem to be getting tighter- I just bought a larger size once my milk was in.

you need support that does not constrict,  underwires are fine as long as they are fit properly and don't pinch,
get measured at a store that specializes in bra fittings if you can.
i was wearing a 40 DD and turns out i am really a 34J.  much better fit now...

All my day time nursing bras have underwire. My night time nursing bras are sports bra types.

I think the right fitting bra is what's important, not necessary the type.  Also everyone is different.  I've heard some women say if they don't wear a bra they make more milk at night, but myself wear a sports bra at night and make more than when I don't wear one at all.

I got fitted for a bra and after a few days I noticed an increase in supply.  I had only been wearing poorly supported bra's before that.  I have actually found nursing bra's are the worst, I've tried different types and brands but nothing "fit" ok.  I wear a normal bra (although I do pump 100% of the time).

In general a good fitting bra is important, regardless of the type or if your nursing or not.

Make an appointment at nordstroms lingerie department to be fitted. They are specially trained and are always updating their training for fits with mastectomy bras and nursing bras based on what earth professionals suggest. They will also make sure you are in the best fit for your body. I am a previous fitter for them, I would suggest calling to make an appointment and ask to be put with the manager or the prosthesis fitter. Those two are the most qualified and experienced there. Do not giro vickies, as their fit guide is not to national standard and they do not make every size bra (worked there to).  They're fine for women with chests that are not heavy and who want a certain look, but not for a momma who needs great support. Macy's has a good department too, as does dillards. Hope that helps!

Ya know what is Ironic... we dont have any of those department stores around here! I am still working with what I have and still pumping/nursing. Continuing to do okay and most times at home I just give up on wearing one!
