Two things!!!!

Two things!!!!

First thing...Yesterday I called the LC at our local hospital.  I just realized I have a high level of the enzyme called "Lipase" in my breastmilk.  This causes my breastmilk to taste slightly soapy, kind of a metallic taste to it after it's been stored in the refridgerator/freezer.  Have you ever tasted your breastmilk after it's been stored?  Thankfully, my baby girl does not mind the taste, and it is not harmful for them either. She wouldn't take her bottle a few days ago, and I knew she was hungry, I tasted the milk and sure enough it tasted funny.  To fix the problem, you are to bring your fresh expressed milk to a brief scald in a pot on the stove...not in a microwave as it will heat too fast and kill all the good stuff.  So, for those of you that have given your baby a bottle of your milk and know your baby is hungry, but makes a yucky face and turns away...taste your milk, you have high levels of Lipase.  The LC told me it is very very common, but very fixable.  Google "Lipase in breastmilk".

Ok, second thing...and I'm really excited about this one, cause I did it and it worked for me.  The LC and I were chatting on and on, and she told me a trick to play on your body to produce more breastmilk.  She said after you feed your baby, immediately pump for 10minutes, wait 10minutes, pump 10 minutes again, wait 10, then 10 minutes again for a full hour.  So you are pumping every 10 minutes for an hour.  Now...you must commit to doing it for the whole hour.  You may get some breastmilk in those three 10 minute intervals you may not...but you are tricking your body into thinking your baby needs more milk, therefore your body will replenish itself. You don't need to do it all the time, only if you want to increase your supply from time to time. I did it yesterday, twice and I had no problem feeding my baby all day and into the night, plus I had enough to refridgerate..  Pretty cool...

i've heard about high levels of lipase. i assume i don't have it since dd takes refridgerated milk, and my first took all of my frozen stash. I haven't tried frozen with this baby yet.

A note to those who discover their baby doesn't like freezer milk- i have heard of many cases where the baby would take it when older, so don't toss the stash. worst comes to worst, you could always use it to make cereal.

as for your second thing- it's called "power pumping" :) something else you can google :)
