Uneven milk supply

Uneven milk supply

Is it possible for one breast to produce more milk than the other? I express regulaly and also feed my child directly from the breast, but my right breast always feels up faster and more than my left breast. I can never get out an even amount of milk from the left breast. I'm worried that my lest breast may stop producing and i would have to rely soly on my right breast.

very normal.
for me, at first righty always made an ounce more than lefty. then after a bout of mastitis, lefty always made at least an ounce more than righty. if i went all night without pumping, sometimes there was a 2 ounce difference! lefty would produce up to 9 and righty up to 7.

On a good day ,i barely make 3oz with the left whislt i can 8 or 9oz from the right, take a brake and still continue with the right. However, the past few days i've barely made 2oz from the left.

I found I have the same problem... dd doesnt seem to show any signs of hunger, and boy is she putting on the pounds. so I dont fret anymore.
I never was one to be able to pump alot. I guess I just dont relax enough? no telling.

That is so normal!! At first my right side produced way more- now my left side is the champion!! lol. Thats after mastitis in my left breast. As long as your baby is gaining weight well, don't worry.

I'm there with you ladies - my right breast always gives more than my right...  This is my first baby so I'm glad others out there experience the same thing!

It is quite common for one to make more than the other anyway. Babies will often favor one side based on mom's subconscious cues. Some mom's will put the baby to the breast on their non-dominant side to make multi-tasking easier and before they know it, they have developed a pattern.

Try my experience: I nursed three big boys on one breast for over a year each...exclusively. My left breast kept pace, it had to. My right breast did not produce any milk and I was stubborn and didn't want to add a bottle or formula. It is possible to do it, but I would have loved to have the benefit of the other breast, even if it was just for a few extra ounces during those growth spurts.

It worked well that while I am left-hand dominant for writing, I use my right for everything else. It made signing the papers during the closing of our house a blast last year ;-)

yep I did the same thing I always nursed my twins my daughter on the right and my son on the left and she was a better nurser than him and that breast produced more....so that's why it's important to alternate breast each feeding so that you keep and even milk supply with even stimulation
