anybody bfding+1 bottle per day?

by nylena, Jul 24, 2008 09:36AM
Hi,I was wondering,is any of you in the stage of giving just one bottle in the evening and bfding for the rest of the day? I think I' m ready to start giving just one bottle of formula ,so that I 'm sure that she eats well before sleep because she has been eating very little for the past couple of weeks-although she asks for milk regularly, maybe because of the heat..She eats for a few minutes and then she only wants to suck-play-sleep..She is not gaining weight like she used to and also I don't think I 'm going to breastfeed much more.So how much time do I need in order to wean smoothly?Do I start with one bottle for a week, then two for another week and so on?What do you do with own milk when she has bottle,do I pump or do nothing in order to reduce production?

i think that you should 1st start with 1 bottle a day but mix it half breast milk and half formula that is what i am doing now my 5m old gose to daycare  i am doing half and half right now and then i am giong to give her all formula while in daycare once she gets the taste for the formula.  you should pump and store the brast milk when you offer her the bottle b/c if she wont take the formula you can put the breast milk in the bottle

Babies usually eat what they need to eat, and their weight gain slows down as they get older. I would say that if she's happy, developing and having wet/soiled diapers she's getting enough breastmilk. Just be aware that the tranistion to formula can cause many issues. I would encourage you to hang in there with the breastfeeding!
