Start doing a lot more our and about activities to keep you both entertained and away from the normal nursing location. I went very slow with my boys, I would drop a feeding a week and give it a little while to see how it was handled and then drop another. It was painless for me and easier on the boys.  I did find I had to find creative ways to distract from what could be best described as the habit of nursing because of the situation or time of day rather than actual hunger.

We started doing a lot of walks, a lot of outings, etc. My youngest seemed to take it the hardest and nearly made me change my mind, but at that point he was 19 months and seemed to be ready to move on to a more independent way of eating.

Hi hinda it varies during the day i try  not to nurse her unless i  really  have too during the day, but  i  find  usually  the  later  in  the day  the  more she wants to be  nursed, as she starts to get tired and wants  more of a comfort feed, I always feed her  last thing at  night to get her  off to  sleep, im going to try stopping the first feed in a moring and then do it from  there (hopefully) and then break it down  after to  that  to  stopping the  bedtime feed.

My 20 month old and I are in the process of weaning.  We are down to first thing in the morning and right before naps.  Her father puts her to bed at night.  About 2 weeks ago she started asking to be nursed all the time.  I find that when we are out she doesn't ask or if she does she's not totally obsessed about it.  She calls nursing Um so it's not terribly embarrasing when out in public I have a 20 month old hanging off me yelling "Mommy, I um!"

I found now that she becomes very upset if she is told no.  She has resorted to screaming and hitting.  I don't want to give in, and only will allow an extra nursing when she is really tired and off her normal schedule.  I am also interested in anyones advice to help with this one.  She is very strong willed.

Funny thing is my older daughter weaned herself at 22 months.  One of those, when was the last time she nursed?  things.  I just suddenly noticed it had stopped.

I took my  DS for the 2 year assesment to  the  hv and told  her  i  wanted to  give  it a go  at stopping  breastfeeding, she said to me surely you  cant  have enough milk now  or  be  producing enough!! I always thought as long as the  baby  wanted to bf then  you produced milk!! I havent leaked  breastmilk  for along time so now  im  thinking  has  my Ds just been  comfort feeding? The  hv  also  told  me to  either  just  completly stop breastf feeding  my Ds and suppliment with full fat  cows milk or fromage frais youghurts!!

I stopped leaking like 6months in with my 2nd child. You are still making milk.  Your body has learned how much to make for your child. Have you started with cows milk?  I started my daughter at 1 year to supplement.  I only feed her 2 times a day and I can still manually express milk.  I wouldn't stop cold turkey.  That will be hard on both of you.  She may feel abandoned as breastfeeding is such a huge bonding and comfort thing.  Just start giving her a little milk at meals and even some before you b/f her and she will start weaning.
