First of all, it is impossible for babies to be allergic to breastmilk.  He may be allergic to things that you eat, therefore when he feed he has an allergic reaction.  What is his reaction?  How long was the reaction happening?  When did the reaction start?  Is he on any new foods?

As for helping you dry up, apply really cold cabbage leaves to the outside of your breasts.  replace them when they warm up.

It is very rare for babies to be allergic to breastmilk but not impossible.   I know from experience.

If you stop pumping and stimulating the breasts your milk will dry up.   I'm not sure if Dr's will still prescribe meds to help stop production.  You could ask.   Also, you could contact your pharmacist and see if there are any teas or herbal supplements to help.

In all my years of work, I have never heard of allergic reaction to breast milk and neither has anyone I know.  It if possible for babies to not be able to digest or breakdown certain components of breast milk, but that is not an allergy.  I would love to see any research you have, but until I read something myself that is backed by scientific information I stand firm on what I said.

I do not understand how your skin problems and allergies are making your breast milk bad.  If you are needing to take medications for those issues, there are alternatives that are SAFE with breastfeeding if you would like to continue to breastfeed.  If not, be proud that you made it 9 months and know you did everything you could.  You should not be disappointed.  Hope you feel better soon.

I am with Doula Summer babies can not be allergic to breastmilk! My son had horrible diaper rashes till I found what I could not eat that would hurt his bum. There was actually alot he ccould not tollerate. I have heard of babies not being able to digest bm but only have seen and heard of that when mom already is breastfeeeding the child before and the protiens are bigger and especially preemies that sometimes but rarley can effect. I tandum feed my 15 month old and had a 30 weeker and she did fine and ahd not digestive problems.

THere are lots of mothers who think their babies are allergic to BM and are told that by a gastroenterologist or pediatrician and they are miss informed! THere ar dr's out there that are not BF friendly. There are lots of myths that have gone on for years also!

As for a mothers allergies and needing meds for them while bf I suggest a natural approach. Whatever you can take pregnant you can take while BF. BUt yeah if it has been 9 months and you just would rather just quit then be happy for what time you have done. That is something you ahve to weigh the pros and cons yourself for both you and your baby and be confident with yoru decision.
