mastitis

i need to know from some one had it before what are the symptoms of mastitis and how long usually it takes to cure it??

For me, it was a hot, painful hard spot on my breast, accompanied by a fever and then flu-like symptoms. Someone recently posted that for them, the fever was not noticable and it felt like sharp shooting pains through the breast.

Like most bacterial infections, symptoms should begin to improve after 24 hours on antibiotics, and clear up after several days on the antibiotics.

I had a sore part of my breast. It almost felt like I was engorged even though my son was a year old. That night I woke up in the middle of the night sweating (I didn't have a thermometer, but I obviously had a fever) and the next morning the spot that was sore was red and splotchy. I got on atb's that morning and I felt cruddy for several days after... although the redness and pain went away in a couple days.

I got this when I was weaning my son at 6 months of age. I had a hot, painful breast - where it was hot, it was also pinkish.  I also felt as though I was coming down with the flu:  I had a fever, chills, aches....felt awful!  My doctor saw me right away, confirmed my suspicions that I had mastitis, and then prescribed antibiotics.  It cleared up...and didn't return, thank God.
