That's great that he is latching on now, try putting him to your breast very frequently.  As much as he will let you.  Maybe pumping a few moments to get a let down so he can start nursing as soon as he gets on, at least for a few times so he knows that there is something there.  I remember feeling the same way you are feeling, I was very worried about my supply, also.

My lactation consultant recommended Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle to increase my milk supply.  Make sure that you are eating a healthy diet and getting enough to drink.

Try to relax about it and sleep as much as you can, it seemed as if every time I took a good nap or had a really good sleep, my supply really built up.  Sometimes I would just put the two of us in bed, and let my dd just drink and drink whenever she wanted.  Be sure to be safe about it, though.  If you are not used to co-sleeping, that might not be a good idea, especially if you are totally exhausted.

It's possible that you aren't getting much milk with the pump, but the baby is getting plenty.  Some pumps are better than others.  Do you have a lactation consultant or a supportive pediatrician?  Sometimes they will weigh the baby, have you nurse, and then weigh the baby again to see how much the baby is getting.

Good luck, congratulations on the birth of your son.

You need to see a lactation consultant. It almost sounds like he may be tongue-tied. A thorough evaluation of the latch may help determine any problems and help find a solution.

Keep offering the breast and do not wait until late signs of hunger. A baby this young should be nursing every 1 to 3 hours. No more than 3 hours between feeds, especially while trying to establish the supply.

Yes, I agree, PLENTY of rest and eat eat eat and drink a lot of water.  A lot of women don't want to eat because they are trying to loose weight right away.  That is not good if you are trying to establish your milk.  Eat and sleep eat and sleep.  My milk was also better when I was rested.

I posted earlier that you can probably get yogi nursing tea at any health food store.  Just call ahead so that you don't waste a trip.  I ate oatmeal which I I heard from someone to do and I have also heard beer which I never did.  I have no idea whether the tea and oatmeal helped, pumping or just putting my daughter to the breast....But I did everything I could and eventually my milk came in strong.

Have you been to the pediatrician yet?  If you are concerned about him not getting enough get him into the dr. right away!! However more than likely he/she will reassure you that everything is okay.  And that is good.  Don't feel embarrased if you want to get him in before his appt.  It is always better to be safe than sorry, especially if you are concerned.  And if everything is okay than the appt. was still worth it because you won't be as stressed out about the situation.  Stress isn't good for establishing breastmilk either.  Most offices will also do weight checks.  How many wet/soiled diapers is he having?

My daughter was jaundiced, underweight and hard to wake to feed but she is now a very very healthy 9 month old in the 95% for height and weight.  She's a chunker and she has been ahead in all of her milestones.  So hang in there he will be okay.  As long as your ped. is okay with everything than I am sure your baby is okay.  But by all means get him to the dr. if you are concerned.  I was always at the dr. in the beginning.  That is what they are they for.  Hopefully he/she is supportive and will give you some advice.

Oh!!  One last thing.  My daughter also would only spend no more than 5 minutes at the breast.  To this day the only time she stays 10 minutes at the breast is before bed.  Her dr. told me that she was just very efficient.  I think her weight goes to show that this was true for her.

I would feed her and then pump to stimulate some more but rarely did much come out.  Her dr. told me that that was because she got it all out.

The biggest tell tale sign that your baby is getting enough are his diapers.  Keep count.

Ditto to what the others have said and ASAP see a lactation consultant. I failed to nurse my first (lots of reasons really) with my second child I had a hard time at first, my lactation consultant recomended I spend 24 hours in bed with the baby just getting to grips with nursing. I was lucky enough to have help so was able to do this. I literally just got up to use the bathroom and get something to eat and drink. I had lots of water on hand to sip too. Basically I spent and hour at a time nursing from one side, leaving my breast exposed and allowing baby to suckle as much as he wanted encouraging him whenever he was awake, after an hour I would switch sides and do the same thing. That day was probably the best time I could have spent getting baby used to nursing.
Good luck

Are you in the US?  Please contact the hospital where you delivered and ask if you can speak to a lactation consultant.  A lot of the hospitals are offering that service.  It really sounds like you and your son would benefit from professional help.  Good luck.
