sleeping through the night??

sleeping through the night??

just wondering how long babies who are nursed sleep at night?  What is the longest stretch your goes at a time??  When everyone says "my baby sleeps through the night" I just don't know what that means...I mean I cannot imagine going over 6 hours or so when you are nursing.  what is everyone else' experience??

I'm lucky at 2 weeks old if I get 3.5 hrs in the middle of the night - I think we've had one night where the baby went 4 hrs.  From what I understand - 6/7 hours is considered sleeping through the night for a baby.  My pediatrician today said when the baby is about 2 months most sleep through the night.  When I was a kid my mother was told that when a baby is about 10lbs they sleep through the night -but again- that would only mean about 6/7 hours.  How old is your baby?

At 3 months, we started to get 6 hours, now at 4 months we get 7 hours OR, if he wakes to feed in the middle of the night, we'll get 8-9 hours with that 10 min blip. I thought the day would never come, then like a light switch one night, he slept "thru".

Isabelle is almost 6 months and she sleeps from 8pm or 9pm until about 2 or 3am.  She will feed for about 10 minutes and go right back to bed.  This will happen again around 4am or 5am.  She then wakes for the day at 6am or 7am.  So I guess that would be considered sleeping through the night?????
Should I try to eliminate those little blip feedings in the middle of the night??  I just don't want to have to get up to pump - if I am getting up I might as well just feed her.  I am wondering if the thought of her sleeping from 8pm to 7am without any feedings is probably out of the question??  What age would that be appropriate??

mine is 6.5weeks old and will go that long, atleast for this week that is. gulp
perhaps... just pat her back or re chubby her blanket. she may be just waking up for reasurance of your there?
your breast will adjust you babys needs, no need to pump. you may feel full but a day or two.. it will get better.
Her getting up at 2am is not sleeping thru the night. anytime you have to get up, even for 10min... in the middle of the night isnt concidered a all nighter. hang in there... it will happen

Yes I do think she likes being by her momma at night and is used to being fed and snuggling with me(or should I say the boob) at 2am and 4am.  She does seem hungry though and does eat (it's not like she falls asleep as soon as she touches me or anything.).  She goes right back to sleep though after.  She also doesn't cry or anything at night - she just thumps her feet on the crib mattress until I go in there.  I have tried waiting it out but I need to get sleep too.  Might have to turn off the monitor and just set my watch or something.  I feel mean doing that though...:(
I am thinking maybe I should try to delay the 2am feed until 3am and then she wouldn't need a 4am one.  Then maybe after that I can get rid of the 3am one too.

My daughter is 6 weeks now and if she goes to bed around 11:00, she will sleep until about 5:30. Thats only if she cluster feeds between 7-11 (she'll want to eat every hour!). If I put her to bed any earlier, she wakes up earlier, obviously. Last night hubby wanted to do me a favor and let me sleep at 9 and he let her go to sleep around 9:30 or so and I was up with her at 1:30 and 4:30! We are still trying to get our routine down! She went 7 hours one time and I woke up so engorged!!

ds is 6m and still eats about 3 times between 11pm and 7am. So he typically is nursed to sleep at 9, up to eat around 12, 3, 5, and then up at 7 to eat. I think he has reversed cycled though since I work a few days a week.
