Mary, The Blessed Mother

I was reading another post and it hit me!  As Christians, sometimes we do not understand why we go thru periods that seem like dead zones, or we get numbed out on life's problems and then we begin to feel sorry for ourselves. God never said life would be all roses and come to think about it, I do not know of one in the Bible that lived on easy street, just didn't walk alone and drew off the Strength God gave us.  Any way, I was thinking of Mary, called the blessed virgin, the holy mother, etc. And she was selected by God to carry and deliver and raise our Lord and Savior.  However, you never really hear the other side of the story. I think it would be good for some of us to take a closer look.  Yes, Mary was blessed in a way and cursed in another.  Just think, she had to stand at the foot of the cross and watch her first born son give his life for the world. An agonizing, humiliating and slow death at that. She watched as her boy asked for water and rags dipped in vinegar were lifted to him to drink. They stripped and humiliated, tortured and mocked him, in front of his Mom. She had to endure all this.  I as a mother cannot even imagine this. Hopefully, I will think on these things the next time I go to thinkin about how hard my life is or how bad my problems are.  I just thought that was too powerful not to share.

Being the mother of Jesus had to be incredibly joyful and painful all at the same time. To know that he would die for mankind (and her) had to be hard and humbling to accept.

Ever noticed how it was the women of the bible who seemed a bit more couragous in the bible than the men? Most of the men tended to scatter when thing got rough, like at the crucifiction. It was also women who came to his tomb to discover he was gone. Just something I noticed.

Our pastor was just talking today about how John and Jesus' mother, Mary, were standing there before the cross and how even though Jesus was suffering terribly, he was concerned about his mother being taken care of and asked John to take care of his mother as if she was John's mother and for Mary to consider John her son. That really touched me.

Good reminder how Jesus suffered all through his ministry (being mocked, watched, rejected, going hungry, not having a place to lay his head and ultimately dying a horrible death). He suffered when he did no wrong.
We are blessed to have a Savior who understands our sufferings and trials and temptations because he's been there himself.

Also a good reminder that Jesus was able to go through all of that because he saw the bigger picture. He saw how the outcome would be and that was worth more than the suffering. He was willing to do all that for you and me, all of us, to have a relationship with God and be right with God because of Jesus' righteousness. Not our own righteousness, but his. We would never be able to get there on our own. We could never be good enough. The Lord loved us that much that he was willing to suffer and die for us so that we would never again be seperated from God.

I will always, always be grateful to him for that. That is why I would never be able to leave him no matter what, no matter how bad things may go in my life. He is my lifeline. He is Lord and Savior and will always come first in my life.

I was never given the privilege to be a mother myself so I cannot fullly contemplate a mothers pain at the death of her son. If this happened to my brother I can imagine that kind of pain. How lucky we are to have the Blessed Mother, I want to love her more everyday.

Teko, I totally agree with you 100%!  Blessed Virgin Mary. The humbled handmaid of God, who is blessed among women had the honor and privledge to be selected to be the mother of the son of God. What and honor and sword in her life, heart and soul to witness her beloved son to be tortured, humilited and die a slow death for mankind. What her eyes have seen and what she lived. She has earned the title, "Queen of Heaven and Earth" and is to be respected for she is the Mother of God. Amen!
