Dear Doctors,
My mother-in-law who is only 43 years old has been in the hospital now for more than 2 weeks running all sorts of tests. She experienced pain in her chest and legs and when admitted originally was found to have a blood clot which spread to the lungs. She has been treated with blood thinners and this has seemed to resolve this issue. She has been still complaining of stomach pains. A CT scan, ultrasound and blood has been done and the doctor has indicated that she has abnormally enlarged lymph nodes in the stomach area, nothing else revealed. A biospy was done a few days however the specialist doctor has indicated that the results are inconclusive and they still do not know the cause.
My questions are:
1. Aside from infection (bacterial/viral) and cancer are there other ailments that could cause enlarged lymph nodes in the stomach area. Is it either infection or cancer?
2. Why would a biospy be inconclusive?
3. Would blood tests rule out cancer 100% or only a biospy?
4. Any other suggestions or advice would be helpful?
Regards, Alex in Toronto, Canada.
