Possible tumor on Lab

I have a 10 yr old Labrador, and recently found a lump near his ear a little larger than a pencil eraser.  It is somewhat soft, and has a purplish tint to it.  Could it be a tumor, cyst, or possible hematoma?  And if it is a hematoma, should it be lanced?

Thank you.

For a definitive diagnosis it would be best to have either a fine needle aspirate or biopsy performed by your veterinarian.  It could be benign or malignant.  Possibilities include: mast cell tumors, melanomas, histeocytomas, adenomas and many more.  If it is a hematoma it is also best treated at your vets.
