Brain stem gliomas

Brain stem gliomas

My brother is 37 years old. Nearly four years ago he was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma. We have been told this is very rare in adults. The tumor itself is completely inoperable. At first he did chemo using temadar. He did really well for a while, but the tumor came back full force. They did a six week round of radiation, without much success. He has now started a different kind of chemo. They name escapes me right now. (Sorry) Anyway my question is....is their any type of trials going for this type of tumor in adults? Are children and adults treated in the same way? Any information you can give me would be great. Thank you so much for your help.

Gliomas are often rarely curable. But I know that there are some focus around the glioblastoma area regarding gene therapy. miRNA are regulators for gene expression and altered miRNA levels can lead to enhanced growth of tumor cells which is seen in glioma. There are some researchs on lowering the effect of miRNA in glioma simply by blocking it but as far as i know there are no trials yet.
