Can CT with Contrast detect Cancer
Have had stomach, digestive problems over the last 2 years.  33yo Male, no smoke/drugs.  Had a CT with dye injected.  Showed inflamed colon, doc says possibly colitis or crohn's.  Would ct show cancer?  I have a colonoscopy and upper GI scope scheduled in 1 month, I was just wondering if I could rule out cancer.

Thanks,
Dustin

Hi.  An abdominal CT scan can show discrete masses in the colon/ stomach, as well as any enlarged nodes.  However, if the cancer is of the infiltrating variety, this may merely show up on the scan as a thickening of the gut wall.  Endoscopy, and possibly an endoscopic ultrasound is better at detecting cancers in the stomach or large bowel.
