Colon Cancer to Liver

by miaone, Oct 24, 2008 04:08AM
I need some help. Everybody keeps sugar coating there answers to me. I really just want the black and white picture with the gray.

For about 10 years my dad has been fighting kidney failure. He finally received a kidney in 07. He has been on immune suppressants. (he has not been on dialysis ever) he also has diabetes.

Id say about 4 weeks ago my dad started complaining about his stomach hurting was up late because the pain was so bad. He was had blood in his stools. The doctors started by an upper GI, they didn’t find anything but a ulcer they had zapped a few years back. The waited about a week then did the lower, they went all the way trough without finding anything. On there way out they some how moved a flap and found a large mass. I don’t know the size or if that’s even relevant. They did a biopsy on it and it came back positive of cancer. But before the test came back they did I believe a CAT scan and found the liver covered in spots. 4 days ago they removed all of his large intestine and a little bit of the colon. While they were in there they took a piece of the liver to test. That came back today positive with cancer. The nurse told me to look up ADENO CA. Nobody was clear about it either, I guess his liver is comletly coverd in cancer. So I don’t know what to expect, I would like to know the success rate. I want to know how may years months days he would be looking at if he did try. People say he should fight the cancer. I just want to know if there is a fight worth fighting here. Should he not put himself trough all the chemo radiation. etc. he is already weak, he just had surgery. Almost to the day we found out about the cancer, he was 1 year post transplant of his kidney. I hope I put out enough information for someone to help me out a little bit. Please, and thank you for your time. And no cancer speclist has met with my family yet. There are limited resorses in Alaska.

Hello!  I am sorry to read about all the difficuties you are having.  I may have some good news for you!  I just found out about a new procedure called SIRT for Liver Mets.  It has been approved by the FDA for colorectal cancer with liver mets.  I have a consultation with the head of Radiology at UVA tomorrow to see if I qualify.  I have stage 4 ovarian cancer and have been battling it for 2 1/2 years.  My cancer is now in my liver.  One 2cm and 3cm tumor and 30 other spots.  This grew while on cisplatin/taxol chemo.  I've had many complications fighting this disease.  You can read my profile.  SIRT is a procedure used for Liver mets.  Google it.  They go through the main vein of the liver with sandy type substance that zaps the tumors doing each side seperately one month apart.  It is the only hope for my liver at this point.  I am off chemo waiting to see if I qualify then the battle with the insurance company.  You shouldn't have that problem.  Good luck and I hope you find a place in Alaska that does the procedure.  It is done by a Radiologist oncologist.  It is for all cancers with liver mets.  Hope this helps...Cindy

I am new to this forum but not new to cancer.  I don't know you and you sound like a nice person.  I was giving solid proven advise to Miaone.  I think it will help her father!!!  I've been researching this.  I'm hear to help with serious aggressive cancer.  I'm not against alternative methods if they are proven.  It's just like chemo not all works for everyone.  The procedure I suggested is "cutting edge".  I have a problem with you because your name did not show up under mine next to the question posted as a response.  I had to open up this question again and there you are.  I also went to your profile and it doesn't show any of your posts anywhere.  That is very strange!  How is it possible for you to hide all of your posts.  Why hide?  Thank you, Cindy  ps.  sorry Miaone for getting off the subject.  I hope your Dad can get all that cancer out of his liver!!!!  Best wishes.....

Thank you so much for deleting Mertle Tertle's post.  I have never encountered anything like that since I joined.  Miaone, you have come to the right place for help.  I'll be checking in to see what progress you have made.  Ignore the last post, it wasn't directed to you.  It was to protect you!  Cindy
