Elevated CA 19 9 level

Elevated CA 19 9 level

Hi...i am 33 years old female from Indonesia... i just got my blood check result today... it turned out that my CA 19 9 is 74 U/ml...

my internist was a bit concerned about the number that he told me to give his senior a visit next Saturday (four days from today) to check what is the deal with my CA 19 9.

I was a smoker for years and i just quit recently for about five months now.. i was also diagnosed with Achalasia Esophagus three years ago.

my appetite is normal, sometimes even healthy, especially during PMS and i have not lost any significant weight at all.

i have no jaundice and no significan abdominal pain or backache, but i do get them occasionally during PMS.

i know that you have mentioned before that if i don't have any of the pancreas cancer symptoms, i should not be worried about having one since CA 19 9 is not an adequate test for cancer.

but it still worries me...

i don't know whether this forum still active or not..but i would appreciate any answer or comfort i can get...

is there other causes that can elevate my CA 19 9 level?

thank you so much...

Pancreatitis, Gallstones and Liver Disease can elevate CA 19-9 levels too.

Yes, I can imagine you are worried; not knowing why this marker is elevated.  Just keep in mind it can be due to something else that is NOT cancer.

All the best to you.  :)

Keep us posted.
