Lesion found on cat scan, what is this?

I recently had a cat scan due to a history of diverticulitus and some left side pain. This is what was on the report when I got it back::
Immediately lateral to the left iliac crest is a 17x21x25 mm enhancing mass. It is adjacent to the anterior abdominal musculature. However, it appears distinct from the surrounding fat. Etiology of this mass is unclear. Biposy is suggested.

Could this be cancer?
Do they have to remove the mass to biopsy it?
Just how big is 25 mm?
I set up an appt. with my primary doctor, but i couldn't get in for two weeks. Please help? -Annie

It sounds like you need a colonoscopy. It is painless (the worse part is the prep) you are asleep for the procedure and they can see your entire colon. Plus polyps or masses can be removed and/or biopsied and reported on. They also have a very clear picture of anything else going on in your colon. Your primary doctor will most likely have to refer you to the proper doctor.
Best wishes
