Liver Cancer

I had an MIR scan late last week and it showed a funny looking lesion on the liver.  Previously I had an ultrasound lesion (one only) was 12mm and the specialist couldn't confirm what the lesion was so they did the MRI scan and the lesion is now 17mm (grown 5mm in a month).
What does Liver cancer look like on an MRI scan.

Liver cancer does not have a particular expected shape that makes it identifiable.  It can be diffuse, or it can be solid; sometimes it's encapsulated, sometimes not.  The difficulty is that diagnosing liver cancer is not straightforward, but it's usually not done by just ultrasound or imaging alone.

Most liver lesions are benign: many lesions turn out to be hemangiomas, and unless you have pre-existing liver disease (such as viral hepatitis or hemochromatosis), or have had other cancer previously, it would be highly unlikely for you to have liver cancer.  If there is suspicion for liver cancer, your doctor most likely ordered extensive blood work as well to check for other indicators of liver tumor.  Hopefully that helps, and I wishing for the best of outcomes for you.
