Liver cancer?

Liver cancer?

I would just like to get some input on the current health crisis my aunt is facing.

My aunt is in her early fifties she comes from a family where they have had a lot of cancer deaths she has lost a sister and her father to cancer. In the late eighties my aunt found out she had ovarian cancer they did a total hysterectomy she never had any chemo or radiation. In 2003 they again found cancer this time in my aunt’s stomach lining. The doctor was 100% sure she got all cancer. While performing this surgery they see a spot on her liver but tell her it is nothing, again no radiation or chemo was done. Now flash forward a day before Easter April 2010 my aunt gets extremely sick she can is not having bowel movements and cannot hold down food or even ice chips. She is admitted the hospital out of state (she was away for Easter) they do a colonoscopy  her stomach is so filled with pus due to an infection from what they conclude is  diverticulitis they also saw a spot on her kidney. They send my aunt home after three days in the hospital tell her to chance her diet to avoid seeds etc and encourage her to call her doctor as soon as she gets home she still feels bad but is now having bowel movements and can eat some foods. Last Monday my aunt goes to her local doctor that took her cancer out in 2003 the doctor sends her to the hospital she works out of they admit her. She is told she has an extreme infection in her stomach they do a pet scan and see a tumor on her liver. They say nothing about the spot on her kidney which the other hospital saw. They then perform a liver biopsy on Wednesday. After the liver biopsy everything got worse her pain increased and became unbearable as of last night my aunt’s chest, arms and whole lower body stomach and legs/feet are swollen to the point where it is unreal. She is in extreme pain and now she has horrible coughing fits to the point where she cannot even talk they did an EKG this morning. Her IV’s keep popping out of her arms she is also vomiting every couple of hours although she is not eating she tried to eat last on Thursday but could not. They are pumping her full of morphine to deal with her pain. The last time she saw a doctor was the day of the liver biopsy and they still have not given her the results they did the biopsy on Wednesday. I am just scared her doctor is not that great and seems to be out of the picture (the same doctor ignored the spot on her liver in 03) and the hospital that she is in has a not so great history dealing with patients. I feel she needs to go to Johns Hopkins because the hospital she is currently in is just around the corner.

I want to know if this  may be end stage liver cancer?? I have this horrible feeling that the the spot on her liver in 2003 was something more.  I am open to any ideas and I pray that it is not cancer so I would appreciate any comments thank you in advance!

I am not a doctor but this sounds like exactly what happened to my sister (now deceased) who had end stage liver cancer. She swelled up so bad that they put a catheter in to release the fluid.  Finally after a few weeks there was no more fluid and she passed away.  I hate to have to tell you this, but it sounds like the exact symptoms my sister had.  God Bless You and your aunt. Try to spend as much time with her as you can.
