Lost some trust in the doctor today!

I have had for the last three weeks now a constant cough that will not go away... with NO sinus drainuge... and it is due to irritability in the right side of the larynx. This has been accompanied by piercing ear pain. When I started caughing up blood I went to my doctor. Well... I lost a lot of confidence in him today... I have been seeing him for the better part of three years now...and he asked at the begining of the appointment "are you allergic to any medications" and I said "Vicodin"... well at the end of the apointment he prescribed me some medication that was a direct derivative of Vicodin... the pharmacist called and got it changed! Anyways... he said it was bronchitis... which I could see...but he said "It is definatly bronchitis... there is some white build-up in your throat..." WAIT A MINUTE... from what I am seeing online white build-up has nothing to do with bronchitis! I am getting really scared as the last three weeks I have been taking anything and everything to help this... and NOTHING is coming from any of it! The reason I am so concerned about it being cancer is that I up until about two months ago was a HEAVY HEAVY drinker...and smoker... since I have totally quit smoking and only drink 4-5 pitchers of beer a WEEKEND! and none during the week! I am terrified that I waited too long to quit smoking, and that my bing drinking may have gotten the better of me... PLEASE help... do I go back to my DR's office and ask to see the other doctor? Do I go see another doctor? what do I do! OH... and I have been on the cough suppresant for 24hours now from the doctor... and it only seems to make the coughing worse!

Best advice, get a second opinion from a physician in a different office.  Go in as if you haven't been seen for it already and when the new physician has a diagnosis tell him/her what the previous diagnosis was.  What kind of labs did they do?

For what it's worth, I'm very susceptible to bronchitis and ge pretty bad cases because of my asthma. I cough for months before things settle down, and I've never coughed up blood. It seems to me that should be of more concern to you doctor. Get another opinion.

I think you should definetly go to another doctor and get a second opinion.   Someone should at least send you for an x-ray.  Coughing up blood for any reason is not a good thing.  Dont panic, but you need to see another doctor in my opinion.  Good Luck.
