Love one is dieing from unknown illness at UCSD hospital

My aunt is a 51 year old Mexican female that is showing really odd symptoms of large blackish legions/blisters all over the body well as inside of her nasal cavity, mouth and respiratory system, body tissue swelling, low/high blood pressure, excessive/extreme pain. She is also have large harden lump show up on her back and chest. The blisters start as a form of a pimple with a dark center and then seem to turn into a type of spoil and are surrounded by inflammation.
My aunt has been tested for common and uncommon infections but all test come back negative. Some of these tests have been for Bubonic plague, Cellitus, Mrsa, Anthrax and common fungus related infections.
My family is running out of options and the doctors still do not know the cause of my aunt’s illness.

Sounds like something autoimmune to me.

Three years ago, my mom had strange pimple-like blisters with dark points accompanied with severe uncontrollable itch... all over her body. She also had swollen lymph nodes... on one side of her throat and in one of armpits. It turned out that that rare skin rash was an uncommon symptom of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. And, the biopsy of the swollen lymph node in her arm pit confirmed it. This isn't to say that your aunt has Hodgkin's Disease... but has that hardened lump on your aunt's back and/ or chest been biopsied?

First let me just thank you guys for taking the time to read my post. My aunt is still not doing will & her illness is still unknown at this time. I was told by nursing staff that my aunt has been tested for venereal type of infections as well as other test for yeast & Fungi, Bacteria. She is also taking several kinds of antibiotics, but has yet to see sign of improvements. I was thinking it sounded like autoimmune too

Doctor have remove tissue samples from the soft palette of her mouth and infected tissue from her arms. Doctors have also taking fluid samples from the legions/blisters. the blisters seem to be targeting thin skin areas of her body and are spreading pretty fast to the point that doctors have started to speak of it being terminal.
My aunt is also now having complication with breathing due to having a collapsed lung, excessive amounts of flem (phlegm), internal inflammation. Doctor inserted a breathing tube and has reduced some of the antibiotics so that they may start my aunt on a 3 day steroid program in hopes to reduced internal inflammation. There has also been several specialists visiting my aunt but nothing has been found yet. Its hard & we don’t want to accept any other out come then my aunt coming home.

I also pray that something will be done for your aunt; so, that she'll be able to return home.

So sorry to hear this news; feel for you.  To me, it just sounds like something autoimmune that went haywire, but it could be something so rare that it might not be found in time to save her unfortunately.

Please try to keep optimistic, and I will be thinking of your family.

Keep us posted.

Thank you for all your help, I really appreciate it and the help is defiantly always welcome.

My aunt has just become stable and there are a few theories on what may be causing her illness. One, is that it may be autoimmune and antibiotics may have triggered a wide spread assaults on her body. Two, she may have a type of vascular cancer. Three it still be caused by unknown Bactria infection, but due to how long it takes to culture samples it is still unknown. Either way her team of doctors have determine that chemotherapy is the right direction to take, but due to the large amount of legions on my aunt’s body it is defiantly a risky direction due to possible infection. My aunt will also mow be in a consistent state of sedation due to the extreme pain that the legions have caused. As it stands if everything works out and my aunt continues to do an amazing job, she will be home in a little over 7 months.
