Lump on NEck

About 4-5 months ago i noticed a very small lump on the back of my nexk just under hairline, you just just hardly feel it, over time it grew to a size of a pea and stayed that way. a few weeks ago i called the doctor to get it checked out, i couldnt get in for 2 weeks. The day before my doctors appointment i woke up with a sore throat and around my lump had swollen all up, had a headache that went into my ear. and the lump was paiful all around it.

I go to the dr he looks at it and says its a cyst, take these antibiotics and come back i n2 weeks and i will remove it.

About 4 days after taking the antibiotics the swelling went away, but now the lump is alot bigger that it was originally before the swelling hit it. And my throat is very scratchy causing me to cxough alot.

I dont get to go back t othe dr untill next wendsday and have 2 days l eft of antibiotics to take.

I am starting to get worried that this may be something more than a cyst.

Anyone have anything similar? Did it turn out ok?

That is what my doctor said he figured it is a  sebaceous cysts

Its located on the back side area of my neck just below my hair.

The doctor is suppsoed to remove it Wendsday if  the infection is gone.

I am hoping he will also have it sent for testing just to be sure.

Today i have a red blotchy rash on an area of my forearm, not sure if its somethign related to the lump, antibiotics or soemthing different.

I have had lumps below my hairline that turned out to be sebaceous cysts, an infected hair follicle I believe, it's almost like a pimple but deeper and bigger and can hurt a LOT. Do NOT try to squeeze it, you can force th infection, "backwards"

When you mention pain going to your ear, the other thing that comes to mind is that there are lymph nodes behind your ear, and lymph nodes get tender and swollen in the area of an infection.

You don't say where exactly the lump is...is it anywhere behind your ear?  Then IT could be a lymph node. It sounds like its an infection, either way, because of the way it responded to the antibiotics....most likely a sebaceous cyst.  Mine have always gone away, either on their own or by doctor's removal. And I've had them almost anywhere there's a patch of hair, unfortunately (I'm female, pubes, pits). Hope you get some relief soon.  Hot, moist compresses often help them "come to a head".  Let us know
