Lung cancer?

My mom is 61 years old. She has a history of breast cancer 9 years ago. She smoked about a pack a day for 5 years, but quit when she was about 25. She has since had a hacking cough, doctors tell her to quit smoking, but she did, long ago.
Recently she has been coughing up red blood in her sputum. It is a good amount, probably 70% blood and 30% sputum. She has also had trouble swallowing food for the past 6 months or so. It just "gets stuck".
I am concerned it is some type of lung or throat cancer. What are the chances? Do these symptoms match cancer? What type? What are the survival rates?
I haven't been able to sleep I have been so concerned. She has a scheduled doctor's appointment. Thx!
