MY 81 year old dad

MY dad is almost 81 and they found a small mass on the bottom of his right lung on an routine xray that was not there 1 1/2 years ago. a cat scanned confirmed. He is going in for PEt scan tomorrow and then a possible biopsy. He never smoked and has been in good health other that HPB and a small heart attack 20 years ago. He has kept an eye on prostate for years with no cancer.no cancer among 6 brothers and sisters and parents and grandparents. his sister did have lung cancer which was not primary and they believe was environmental.they originally thought it was pnemonnia and treated him with antibiotics(we later found out wrong kind) and my mom insisted upon another xray.COuld it be a benign nodule? he has no symptoms and feels great. he was dancing yesterday!

Hi,
I wish him good luck, and hope the biopsy shows a benign condition.

Hi,
Your dad was found to have a lung nodule incidentally during a routine check up. He is asymptomatic, and only a weak family history of cancer.
It could weel be a benign condition.
However, since it has now been detected, it needs to be investigated. The tests suggested by your doctors seem to be the right way to reach a firm diagnosis.
