Muscular cyst

Does anyone know anything about muscular cysts? I have a lump on my lower back, just above the right side of the gluteus. I had an MRI and it has been determined that it is a muscular cyst. My doctor said it was probably present at childhood and now it has erupted and is draining fluid. She has refered me to an orthopedic specialist, who will most likely do a biopsy. What are biopsies like? Is this cancer? I am just so scared!

Hi.
How are you doing?
You will be undergoing biopsy to have a more definite diagnosis.  The biopsy will be carried out under anesthesia, and the specimen is then sent to the pathologist for evaluation.  Once there is already the result, further treatment will follow like surgical excision.
It is very important to have a pathological diagnosis so as to proceed with proper treatment.
Please do post the result of your biopsy.
Good luck.

HI I can only answer about the biopsy as I have had two done to diagnose my sarcoma.( it is very rare)
They use a hollow needle to insert into the specific place, then they sort of 'punch' it to grab some cells. Well it felt like a small punch to me as they took the first one from my back and the second one from my neck as the tumour had grown up into it.

. The first one didn't worry me as I couldn't see anything they were doing. as yours is on your back and on the surface ( I presume) I am sure it won't be too bad

My sarcoma is now very much reduced after Chemo and radiation( which I am still undergoing)
However I expect your lump will turn out to be benign, most do.

Even if not the treatment on offer now is so much better than the past that most outcomes are good.

Very best wishes
Shirley

Hope this helps a little anyway.
