Neoplastic Astrocytoma Grade 2

by SSGMom, Apr 08, 2009 10:00PM
My 39 yr old son was just given the dx of Neoplastic Astrocytoma Grade 2 (malignant tumor on his brain stem).  We have been told that he is not a candidate for any surgery, biopsy, or radiation, which leaves only chemo.  Does anyone have any experience with something like this?  I'm so scared for him my heart is just breaking into tiny little pieces.

A quick note: Grade 2 by definition is slow-growing/benign (not malignant). Be sure to clarify this diagnosis with your doctor. If it is grade 2, it is not uncommon for doctors to choose to wait and observe if the tumor is not causing additional problems. Chemo comes with plenty of side-effects and risks, bringing hesitancy to use it when unnecessary.
