Ovary Cancer

Recently, my mother was operated - her utterous and ovary were removed. Samples taken during surgery were sent for histopathology test.

Now, we have been informed that she has "Serous Papillary Adenocarcinoma, Grade II, Right Ovary". She has to undergo "Chemo" therapy.

I would like to know anyone has gone through surgery. What type of treatment was given? What are the side effects ?  Any risk of taking Chemo therapy?

What is the survival rate after taking this treatment?

Survival depends on when they catch it, what stage it is in, and how good of a cancer surgeon you have.  My mother in law was told she had grade 3 ovarian cancer 4 years ago.  She went thru chemo only, then it came back.  We moved to Salt Lake City, and she went to the Huntsman Cancer Center here, and the doctors there looked at her records from Texas, and said that they did not give her the right dose, that the Chemo was a very low dose and that it would not cure anything.  She then, went to surgery and got her uterus and ovary out (mind you, she only had one ovary left in since the other was removed due to a cyst that burst back in the 70's), and then was started on chemo the right dose this time.  She has been cancer free since, and that was 2 years ago.  The nice thing about Huntsman, is they care about killing the disease, and if you cannot afford to pay, they will not turn you away.
They have meds you can take while on chemo to lessen the affects such as the Nausea and vomiting.  My mother in Law, had no nausea at all with her chemo, and did quite well.  she did lose her hair both times she had chemo, but it has since grown back in, and she is fine.  Hope this helps!!  Teri

Ovarian cancers are usually treated with surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy.
Survival depends on stage of the disease.  The more advanced the stage is, the poorer is the survival.  However, ovarian cancers are quite responsive to treatment as compared to other cancer types.
There are many different chemotherapy options available now.
Side effects of chemotherapy include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, myelosuppression, anorexia.
It is best to consult your mother's oncologist for proper management.

Appreciate, if can continue to get guidance from others as well. This will help to build our confidence level.

As per Oncologist, cancer is  in stage 3 (not sure about sub-stage as we are getting clear information).

Do you know if there is any way to calculate sub-stage using results from CA 215 test?
