Please Help....I am afraid my doctors are missing a diagnosis.

I have been feeling extremely fatigued on and off for several months now.  Sometimes it's an effort to move.  I can be taking a shower and a simple thing like soaping up tires me out that I have to stop.  My arms and legs ache with fatigue so badly.  I am also quiet forgetful.  I have had complete blood counts and everything appears to be normal.  I am wondering if I am suffering from some form of cancer.  The fatigue and tiredness really scare me.  Please note that I get about 5 hours of sleep a night...sometimes less.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it as I have been maintaining this sleep pattern for four years now.  Please help as I am really scared.  I get lightheaded...and pressure in my head a lot.  Sometimes sharp pains as well.  Help.

Hi Allmymarbles....thank you for your advice.  I am now beginning to think that it just might be severe sleep deprevation.

It's not that I can't sleep...it's that my schedule gets me to bed too late.  I am usually in bed by 12:30ish...and wake up at 6.  So I get about 5 hours of sleep...and that is if I sleep straight throught the night which almost never happens because I have to wake  up to go to the bathroom....so it's not like my body is keeping me awake.  It's just my schedule which totally *****.

I am tired...forgetful...and extremely fatigued....all of which you mentioned you felt yourself when you were sleep deprived.  As a matter of fact, I sometimes have to stop what I am doing because of the fatigueing ache in my muscles.

I just hope that this is all it is and its not something more.  Thanks for your input.

Demsh....I hope the bump in your left breast turns out to be nothing.  Try not to worry.  It might be a clogged milk duct...you said you just had a baby 10 weeks ago.  Try not to worry....everything will most likely turn out ok.

I suffered sleep deprivation for several years. Ultimately if affected short-term memory and the fatigue was extreme. (At my lowest point I narrowly aborted a stroke.) The lack of sleep threw my thyroid out-of-whack. In my case the problem was solved by my taking iodine. All the symptoms disappeared some time after my sleep returned to normal. You might consider seeing an endocrynologist. Five hours of sleep a night is decidedly abnormal.
