Prognosis of pheochromocytoma ??!!

What are the prognosis of adrenalectomy in case of pheochromocytoma ??
Do patients return back to normal ??? Do they live shorter lives ???
Do they need a lifetime medication after the syrgery ??

Surgery should be conducted immediately and should be performed in centres with experience in preoperative, anaesthetic and intraoperative management of phaeochromocytoma.

Longterm goal is to prevent death and cardiovascular complications.

The major question is removing both the glands, as the probability of unaffected gland  developing into cancer is a risk.
If both the glands are removed then all the hormones should be given regularly (mineralocorticoids and glucocorticoids)

Most of the surgeons are in the opinion of removing the affected gland, or alternatively only part of adrenal gland can be removed.(medulla removed and cortex left behind)

Your clinician is the best person to take this decision and it differs from case to case.
